Follow the Rhythm, a new free digital game for children 4 to 8 years old

Montreal, November 25, 2021 – Mazaam Interactive Inc., in partnership with the Faculty of Music of Université Laval and the Institut royal supérieur de musique et de pédagogie in Namur, Belgium, today launched the Follow the rhythm edutainment game for children 4 to 8 years old. The game is offered free of charge on the www.mazaam.com website.

The Follow the Rhythm digital game adds sound to a music piece using different percussion instruments, body percussion or everyday objects. Alone or in teams, children accompany the music by following the codes that correspond to the part appearing on the screen.

This new game, the first of a series that will be developed over the next year, introduces children to the very popular theme of Antonín Dvořák’s Symphony N. 9 in E Minor, B.178 : “From the New World” performed by the National Arts Orchestra, and to the history of this great composer.

“Thanks to the Follow the Rhythm game, my pupils enjoyed their introduction to Dvořák’s great music while working on different aspects of their development. Once again, Mazaam has enhanced the quality of a music class,” says music teacher Isabelle Désy, who tested the game in the classroom at École Camille-Marcoux. With its three levels of difficulty, Follow the Rhythm is intended for early childhood educators, preschool and elementary school teachers, music teachers, and parents who want to introduce their 4- to 8-year-old children to music while enjoying a pleasant family time.

“The Follow the Rhythm game is based on a multimodal approach to stimulate young children’s interest in music. Based on a masterpiece of classical music, children stimulate their temporal, visual, auditory, and motor skills. When interrelated, all these skills add to the child’s overall development,” explains Jonathan Bolduc, Ph.D., Canada Research Chairholder in Music and Learning at Université Laval, who is the project’s lead researcher.

“With Follow the Rhythm, Mazaam offers children a new play experience and pursues its mission of offering the gift of classical music to new generations. This is a fun family game to play with children during the Holidays,” affirms François Mario Labbé, President and Founder of Mazaam Interactive and Analekta, Canada’s largest classical record label.

This game was developed with support from the Gouvernement du Québec.
